All over the world, the education of the population is of central importance
for the democratic, economic and social development of a country or region.
The challenge associated with this not only involves the responsibility of nation-states,
the EU and the UN; it also calls for engagement from the private sector. GIED
therefore, is taking the initiative in the development of strategies and implementation
models for the construction and operation of educational centres in former war
zones and crisis areas. Especially in these types of places, sustainable development
can only be assured where democratic and conflict resolution strategies are established
in the society, allowing a process of transformation to be set in motion.
